Please
type where your trip begins. This can be your home address, nearby
crossing streets or intersection, the cross streets of a nearby bus
stop, or a common landmark. Entries may be typed without regard to
case. "Main Street", "MAIN STREET", and "main street" are processed
equally.
The
Plan Your Trip system examines all transit stops within a 1/2 mile
of your starting location. If there is no transit stop within this
distance, the system will select the next nearest stop within five
miles of your starting location. The calculated itinerary may begin
at any of these possible transit stops. If there is no transit stop
within five miles of your starting location, please select another
location to begin your trip. Requests for the fastest trip or the
trip with the least walking, take the distance to the stop into consideration
by applying a moderate walking rate to apply more time to trips with
greater distances to the first stop.
Enter the starting location for your trip. You can enter:
A specific
address (100 N Main Street)
The name
of two intersecting streets separated by the word "AT" or "AND"
or the colon symbol ":" (Main Street:Fifth Ave.)
The name
of a landmark (Disneyland). If you want to see a list of landmarks
to select from, enter the first few letters of the landmark's
name followed by a question mark. (e.g., "LA?"). After submitting
the itinerary request Plan Your Trip displays a drop-down box
and you may click an item to select it and copy it into the location
box. Choices are based on the matching letters preceding the "?".
You may enter a key word, short phrase, or string of letters,
e.g., "?college?" to locate Community College, College Book Store
and City College.
Entry
of a city name is optional. However, it narrows the search if the
same address exists in multiple cities (e.g. 100 N Main St.). Certain
community names may not be recognized by the system. If an un-incorporated
community name is not recognized, please use the municipality name.
Entry
of a ZIP Code is optional. It is useful to reduce the number of ambiguous
addresses within a city such as where a roadway runs through several
ZIP codes in the city.
If
the system finds more than one location in its digital map database
which matches your request, the system displays a list of choices
from which to select. If you cannot determine which to choose, you
should try a nearby intersection rather than a discrete address. Try
another intersection such as a known transit stop intersection, or
use a nearby landmark. Use
the show map function to view the surrounding area of your ambiguous
choice selection.
The
Plan Your Trip system examines all transit stops within 1/2 mile of
your final destination. The calculated itinerary may end at any of
these possible transit stops. Requests for the fastest trip or the
trip with the least walking take the distance from the last stop to
the final destination into consideration by applying a moderate walking
rate, to apply more time to trips with greater distances. If there
is no transit stop within a 1/2 mile of your destination, no itinerary
can be prepared.
Please

stop, or a common landmark. Entries may be typed without regard to
case. "Main Street", "MAIN STREET", and "main street" are processed
equally.

the day you want to travel. You must enter the date according
to the format. The first text field is the month, the second

The Plan Your Trip system is programmed to use Weekday, Saturday,
Sunday, and other special schedules from most all of the fixed route
transit providers in the region so it is important to correctly enter
the date you expect to begin your trip.
Select the ideal trip starting time by clicking the appropriate

final destination.
Fare
Category
Indicate
your fare category by clicking on your choice such as regular,
senior, student, disabled, or blind to identify potential special
fares which may apply. Note that not all transit carriers
offer all fare categories listed and special fares may exist beyond
those listed so check with the carriers listed on your itinerary.
Special
Accommodations
Indicate
whether you require special accommodations for your trip such
as wheelchair boarding or bicycle racks by clicking the drop-down
box and clicking on your accommodation.
The
Plan Your Trip system calculates the trip time from the time you need
to leave to board the first leg of your trip (or selected as the time
you prefer to leave) until you arrive at your final destination.
The
system includes time to go to the first boarding point, to transfer,
and to go from the final deboarding to the final destination based
on a moderate rate of walking. When calculating an itinerary with
the least walking distance, the system strives to produce an itinerary
with the absolute least walking distance, occasionally producing itineraries
which require substantial travel time and distance.
